I wondered long if this one works better and if i should buy it... though i see they both share the same kind of combat engine. Surely this one will work better right? No. It's terrible. And i have come to the conclusion that this game engine just isn't cut for fun action oriented gameplay. Sure you can get this to work somewhat but the fun part is just missing. Combat on ships is something that i can imagine some people love despite(or because) the sluggish way the characters move giving you a stuttering Archon -like linearity to combat. Fortune's Tavern dejavuu is very strong here. The biggest sin i think this game engine brings to the table is that it overshadows the story. You are spendng so much time on being annoyed by it that you just dont even care about the story. Yes i understand, some people like it. But i just can't as there really are WORKING action games such as Secret of Magia that does the action part right. Not going to be spending much ink on the game mechanics itself - i see others have already taken care of that. Instead i am going to just issue a general warning for action games that has this game engine underneath. Now by this i dont mean rpgmaker games generally as i have recently learn't to like a lot of more traditional rpgmaker games but this particular engine that is used on the more action oriented games is just a general disaster and i will avoid it like the plague in the future.. Likes:- The ambition and scope - it's pretty flexible, and there's on-ship, in-space and on-planet.- Does something not really explored for many years - a bit of FTL, a bit of Star Control, a bit of Sun Dog Legacy, a bit of Star CommandDislikes:- The interface is woefully inconsistent (on some screens WASD, on some screens arrows, on some screens mouse)- Oh, and slow. Where you'd like a table perhaps you get a scrolling list of options in a speech bubble.- It's buggy and inconsistent (which is more a limit of cramming something ambitious into the RPGmaker XP engine)Overall:- I rather like it, despite its shonky nature (that's the Star Command influence at work)- With a better engine and more polish it could concentrate on the bits it does well, and let the engine handle the interface.. I'll be frank, i am stinn unsure to thumb up or down. The game is fun to play, atleast untill you start finding a lot of stuff repetetive.Beam down, hope mechs kill and don't get killed run to find loot and go to next area. If mechs killed: continue running untill you reach portal and beam out.It was fun at first but as i said, the missions seems a lot alike, the most profitable think you do is take over enemy ships.Using stat increasing items might have a bad effect in about 1\/5 chanceStill have NO idea what the stats does except health. Some missions are broken (Supposed to enter planet but it says you alreaddy have done it)At one point you get the option to rework a space station for some money. He said i could check the progress anytime. about 2~ hours later i have no idea what it did. (It also came as 2 quests, one for goverment to save hosteges in a space station, but you cant find\/save the hosteges? breaks that quest, and a second one reuse the facility which you finish but never hear of again. The only reason i thumbs up it now is because i have the hope they will fix it and make more content.. I've seen worse, but only a few. The controls are obnoxious and don't really make movement possible while shooting. Moving around is a challenge by itself, even on your own ship, especially if you're trying to open a console. Which is another thing, objects with which you can interact should be more obvious from the background.Overall, the game has a lot on which it can improve, I barely played it before dying without understanding why. I believe there was a glitch and a monster killed me before it showed up on screen. Who knows.I'll leave an updated review if I play it further. Bottom line: don't buy unless it's a dollar.. Is this a good game? Don't know. Crashes during the tutorial.. Refunding for now, might buy at a later date when more content is added, i will say though that the up-coming "Apocalypse Hotel" game made by the same dev does look interesting.
